Did You Shop for Happiness Today?

Well, this may sound a bit cheesy, but think about it. It has been shown that whenever we feel depressed or sad, we tend to buy more things. They do not call it retail therapy for nothing. If you think this is a way to restore balance: we become sad because we lose something (a person, our calm, positive way we perceive ourselves, our faith, etc.); then to restore this balance, we buy things to replace what we lost. The psychology behind this action can be easily explained in terms of winning or losing. Of course, material things can not really compensate for the emotional loss, but the symbol behind this gesture is easy to explain and is a method to our brain to focus on other things.

However, I'm not talking about this type of racing. I speak of the joy we feel when we use or the use of certain brands. How can we explain the joy we feel every time we buy a designer suit or a new car? How to explain this feeling of accomplishment we feel every time we buy designer shoes and new gadgets?

Symbols and markings

You might be surprised, but the explanation behind the purchase of happiness goes far back in history. In ancient Egypt, the warriors had no shoes or design special equipment; but they had bracelets won by each battle won. In the Middle Ages, the nobles had solid sports cars; but they showed their range rings for the world. The truth is, if you look back in history, has always been symbols of success for those who deserved it. And it is to succeed.

We are beings who are constantly struggling to overcome the limitations. We set goals; we remain. Then we have other goals for ourselves and so on. We were blessed with infinite capacity to learn and find out if we used every day to test us. This need for success is what we and the reason for our evolution leads. From the beginning, we designed symbols and signs that reflect our success in the world. And, as we continue to move through the ages, these symbols have changed, but its main function remains the same.

Today, to tell the world our success, we have no more noble rings, bracelets or warriors. But we have gadgets, designer clothes and fast cars. A brand is more valuable because it is exclusive. Why is that? Because you have to do more to get it. This is the position in the society. Therefore, in our modern society, we experience happiness every time we use certain brands. It may not be a conscious feeling, but is deeply embedded in our subconscious. Happiness is the consequence. The actual feeling inside, but we can not perceive is the sense of achievement and accomplishment. These marks are a testimony of the objectives achieved.

Have and want

There is an old saying that your statement is: "Be careful what you like or you will be forced to like what you get." I remember my grandmother used to say that to me all the time when I was very small. At that time, I could not imagine having to eat cabbage instead of chocolate. I used to shrug at the thought of it, then I decided I could never love cabbage and I have to make sure you always get the chocolate. I still think that now, whenever I have to fight for my goals. It is not a question of buying happiness. It's not a matter of snobbery. In fact, it is chocolate.

The Happiness Hypothesis

Not really shopping for happiness, only constant reminders that you are on the right path to success and therefore accept its symbols and signs. The experience of joy because it means that you have dodged a lot of cabbage and, therefore, he rewarded them with a bar of delicious chocolate. The feeling of happiness that knows more wear costumes of designers or driving a new car is the chocolate cake you feel your way forward.
